Specs Required for Artwork Going To Print
The preferred file format is a High Resolution PDF. The higher resolution your file, the better. 3mm bleed “all the way around” will be required if you want colour to the edge. The team will be in touch if your files aren’t going to print well.
Are you matching a colour you have already?
Please let the team know if you have a specific brand or logo colour already, as we would always recommend a sample on a new printed product due to the different machines on different print media – we can’t match colour to your computer screen and need a PMS match.
What is full bleed?
No machine can print colour to the edge, hence the requirement for bleed. Full bleed means the image is printed larger or exceeds the final dimensions of the document required. Once printed, everything is then trimmed down to the finished size. We use and specify 3mm bleed. This means an A4, for example, would be 303mm x 216mm, then trimmed down to 297mm x 210mm.
Business Cards
A standard business card is 90mm x 55mm.
If you require a business card with edge to edge colour, you will need to make the first layer or background image 3mm bigger than the 90 x 55 card. Physical dimensions would be 96mm x 61mm.
DL Rack Cards
A standard rack card is 210mm x 99mm
If you require a rack card with edge to edge colour you will need to make the first layer or background image 3mm bigger than the 99 x 210 card so the physical dimensions would be 216mm x 105mm.
A6 Flyers & Brochures
A standard A6 flyer is 148mm x 105mm
If you are requiring an A6 flyer or brochure with edge to edge colour you will need to make the first layer or background image 3mm bigger than the 148 x 105 card so the physical dimensions would be 154mm x 111mm.
A5 Flyers & Brochures
A standard A5 flyer is 210mm x 148mm
If you are requiring an A5 flyer with edge to edge colour you will need to make the first layer or background image 3mm bigger than the 148 x 210 sheet so the physical dimensions would be 216mm x 154mm.
A4 Flyers & Brochures
A standard A4 flyer is 297mm x 210mm
If you are requiring an A4 flyer with edge to edge colour you will need to make the first layer or background image 3mm bigger than the 297 x 210 sheet so the physical dimensions would be 303mm x 216mm.
Printing Process.
What type of printing process is used?
Our digital print products are printed on our 4 colour digital press. The four colour process (CMYK) is an industry standard whose results can be seen at any news or magazine stand. During this procedure, small dots of Cyan (C), Magenta (M), Yellow (Y), and Black (K) are printed on the paper in a precise fashion forming a full spectrum of colours.
Our Epson wide format poster and label printer uses 8 colour mix to create a 95% PMS match.
Our flag and promo prints use a variety of processes from vinyl transfer, supacolour and embroidery as well as dye-sublimation colour onto fabric.
Colour matching at the best of times is considered an art. Our team spends hours matching to physical samples, pms values, cmyk breakdowns and previous jobs. When getting down to the last few percent of colour matching factors as controlled lighting, paper grain, paper and fabric texture and perception of the viewer come into play.
Please consider the time for sampling and colour matching when planning your print jobs so we can do our best to met your requirements. And advise the team when you have a specific match to work from.
What types of paper are used?
Our digital print products are printed on high quality paper stocks. Standard is satin and coated. We use very few weights just to keep things simple. Our lightest weight is 150gsm and our highest is 350gsm. Where and how you use these stocks is up to you. Need to write on it – then we use an uncoated paper stock at 100 and 120gsm! Talk to us and let us help you achieve your goals.
Our larger format prints are produced on a synthetic block out material or satin poster paper at 200gsm.
